ANZAC Writing - By Zack and Lomio

On Friday the 25th of April we had a very special Assembly for ANZAC. Mr Burt took us out to show us our special Remembrance field to remember the soldiers who fought for our freedom. They sacrificed their lives to keep peace in this world from all the bad things that happened in world war 1. When all of the kids got to the Remembrance field we had to have a moment of silence to show respect and honour those who fought for us in the war. Then people started praying for all the luck that they have been given to us in this world. And then the trumpet started playing for a moment to finish the end of the assembly.

Did you know that in World War 1 they did not only have soldiers in the army but they had different types of animals to help with things like carry ammunition, pull guns and carry wagons. Dogs were used also to help send messages, to help search for wounded soldiers and carry medicine. Dogs were a better choice to use because they were faster and more quicker than a soldier, so they would have more of a chance to survive if they had to run across the battlefield to send a message to the others. If someone got caught they would let them go because people didn't want to kill others. They would just surrender and send them back to have peace.

At our Special Assembly we had some of our students and teachers wearing poppies to show the remembrance of those who had served for us. Poppies were the first flowers that blossomed in the spring during 1915 on the battlefields when the war had ended. Poppies are worn as a symbol in memory of those who had fought and died for us during the world war 1. It was the inspiration and dedication of two women who promoted this same “Memorial Flower” funds were raised to help support those in need, especially servicemen and civilians suffering from physical and mental hardship as a result of war.

What I have learnt about ANZAC is that in New Zealand ANZAC is marked as a national public holiday, which everybody has a day off to remember those who fought for us in World War 1 . And dogs in world war one they can very help because they help the people that were wounded in World war 1 and carry things.

World War 1 - By Roimata

In 1915, in World War 1 thousands of soldiers fought for Australia and New Zealand so they can keep us safe. We wear poppies because the place that the war was taking action in was a field filled with poppies. A - N - Z - A - C stands for Australia, New Zealand, Army, Corps. Observed on 25th April each year, Anzac Day was originally to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli and Turkey against the Ottoman Empire during World War 1. While we were at assembly we had to gather at the Memorial to remember the people that passed away, then we had to remain silent to show respect to them.

The first NZ soldier to die was Private William Ham. He was fighting in Turkey in an area that is known as Suez Canal. They were fighting against the Ottoman Empire which is Turkey. He died 2 days after the attack because of his extreme injuries. Austria Hungary was the first country to declare war on Serbia. Russia mobilizes. Germany warns Russia to stop mobilizing. Russia says mobilization is against Austria-Hungary only. In August 2th 1914, Britain asked New Zealand to seize German Samoa as a ‘great and urgent Imperial service’. New Zealand’s response was swift. Led by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Logan, the 1400-strong Samoa Advance Party of the New Zealand expeditionary force landed at Apia on 29 August.

I have learnt that on Anzac Day heaps of people from Australia and New Zealand has fought for us and they surrender because they wanted everybody to be free and have peace in every country. I feel really bad for the people that went to war, some people from the war came back and some soldiers passed away and their families were so sad. “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.”

Remembering ANZAC Day - By Seini

Last week on Friday our school had a special assembly about ANZAC. Mr. Burt told us some information about ANZAC then we went outside to our field of remembrance. We had one minute of silence. ANZAC stands for Australia, New Zealand army corps. People wear poppies to remember those soldiers who fort for us in world war one. At the place they had the war there were loads of wild poppies that grew after the battle was over. To some people the poppies show how much blood was on that ground where the terrible battle was held. World war one is the first world war also known as the great war.

A few days ago I have been finding some information about world war 1. I have found out that Private William Ham was the first New zealander to die in the war. He died on the 3rd of February 1915. When he had died the rest of the New zealanders helped defeat Suez Canal from an attack by Ottoman troops. Private William Ham died because of extreme injuries.

World war 1 was caused by Gavrilo Princip because he assassinated a man called Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie then eventually the war began. On the 5th of August 1914 1 p.m New zealand received the outbreak of the war. All of the New zealanders were very excited when they went to war but they didn’t know they were going though. When they had the battle they refused to kill each other.

They used trenches to hide from the enemy’s because if they didn’t have trench's they’d be seen and get shot. The soldier’s have dogs to help them in the war.They use dogs because they can run a lot faster than human and they also use dogs to carry messages around for help. Sometimes when soldiers are hurt in a shell hole where shells were exploded it would be hard for the other soldiers to come find them if there were lots of shell holes.

This nasty war happened 100 years ago before I was ever born. The New zealand soldiers fort for us in the war so we would live. After this war happened most of the soldier’s went back home without some body parts, some didn’t even go home because they were dead and some went home after many years. Now we all wear poppies to remember the soldiers who died for us in this terrible event.

I will explain three main ideas about world war one.Guess what war broke out in Europe in August nineteen fourteen. When it was world war one New Zealand was planning to capture German Samoa War broke out in Europe in August nineteen fourteen. After war broke out the Britain's asked New Zealand to seize German Samoa but in a great way.

On August twenty ninth nineteen fourteen New Zealand did capture German Samoa.The first soldier from New Zealand to die was private William ham He was fighting in turkey on a battlefield in an area that is known as suez canal.They were fighting against the Ottoman troops.

World war one is very interesting but sad to for lovely soldiers who died.The powerful weapons they used at war was canon belge,snipers,Rifles and stone civil war gun.A stone civil war gun is like a massive war machine it is so massive that Four to six people can fit inside it and throw bombs to the enemy.For those soldiers who die we shall remember them in honour and never forget what they have done for New Zealand.

In world war one the soldiers ate bully beef which is called corned beef now,fresh meat,Maconochie's meat stew.They also ate vegetables to keep them healthy and hard biscuits was a meal for the soldiers.Did you know Maori left New Zealand one hundred years ago,was the first organized effort by Maori to represent themself overseas.

I feel really sad for those people who died from world war one I really hope that they died in peace but I know most of them didn’t.They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.We must not forget them we should always keep them in our Memory.

The Day my Toy Came Alive - By Rocky

One stormy night I decided to go and get my bear until he magically came alive. "What is this?" I said in terror. "My name is Wluffy Winks," the bear said. I could not believe my eyes! Was this going to be the day my toy came alive?

MUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMM! "What?" she demanded! "My toy is alive!" I yelled. I think she thought I was nuts. As I strolled through the lounge I jumped up as there he was eating the Ice Cream. "WHY ARE YOU ALIVE?" I said. "I want to be free," he replied.

I then wanted to make the most of playing with him before my parents woke up. So then we played video games and watched tv. We also wrestled but I lost. Then the sun was just about to rise and he turned back into an ordinary toy.


I cant wait till I see him again at night time!

54 Year Old Camera - By Rocky

Have you seen a 54 year old Kodak Camera? My auntie got an old camera from one of her clients.The name for it is Kodak sterling 2 camera, the camera is very different to our new cameras. It has this button to open this little box which has this lens in it to take photos.

I need film for it so I can take photos. I want to see how long I can keep it and probably sell it.

Jesse Owens - By Rocky

Guess who my favorite athlete is? Jesse Owens, I like him because his heart for playing at the 1936 Belgium Olympics. Hitler was attending the games when hitler saw Jesse owens owning the race. He wanted the blonde hair men to win but Jesse Owens beat them. Jesse owens also won in long jump to.

Jesse had won the 100m, 200m 4X100 relay and long jump. Soon after, hitler honored Jesse owens. He inspires me for going to the olympics where he was surrounded with germans.

Jesse Owens made a new friend who was german. He beat him in long jump and sprinting. He sadly died 1980 in march 31st in tucson Arizona.

Jesse owens is legendary and I hope that he did his best at the 1936 Belgium Olympics.

Lisa Carrington's Gold Medal - By Levi

My favourite athlete is Lisa Carrington. She is an amazing athlete at Canoeing because she came first and won the gold medal this year at the 2012 Olympic Games. Lisa was born in 1989 and where she trains is at Eastern Bay Ohope. She came 1st K2 1000m A Final 2010 World Cup Series. Her favorite food is a slushy (Icy drink) and she lives in a town called Ohope, in New Zealand.

One of Lisa Carrington’s goal was to win a gold medal and she has done it. She competed in the Olympics and reached her goal. Here is a video link about Lisa. She is an amazing athlete to watch and man you had to see her because she was faster than the woman who came first in 2010! (I think).
Just like a tiger hunting for a deer that is totally focused is just like how Lisa got the gold medal. She is not going to keep her eyes off the prize. I’m sure she must have worked hard every morning of the week. I like her cool technique, how she grabs that oar with her long arms and scoops it in the deep water, to reach the finish line. Deep long breaths are helping her body to move even faster.

Make sure you practice because maybe you might be an athlete just like Lisa Carrington. I love canoeing about the same amount as Lisa. I can’t wait until the next Olympics open in Rio in 2016!

Valerie Adams - By Levi

I'm loving the Olympic Games so far are you? Well New Zealand is not as bad as I thought they were going to be. They have to be so proud of themselves and the other countries. The Olympics are a hard challenge for all of us to get into and maybe you might see me at the Olympics one day.

The Men's Hockey Game is on tonight and I think that I'm going to watch it hopeful. Valerie Adams came second last night and boy she was amazing. She could've come first but the other Women came first. The activity that I want to do is canoeing. This is a great moment for all of you to think of the sport  that you will want to do.

Adams Claiming Gold - By Jabez

The news came with a terrible cry Belarus shot putter Ostapchuk got stripped from the gold medal after getting tested for drugs. The test said she was positive of using steroids, she crashed to the floor bursting in tears. When they called Adams her eyes flooded she was promoted for the gold, interviewing was everywhere around her.

Adams agreed, telling Radio Live the replacement ceremony would ease her disappointment at not having her win honoured during the games. happiness surrounded Adams as she was still bursting into tears. She said “She wants nothing to do with Ostapchuk."

Hi my name is Senolita and I am 10 years old. I am a year 6 at Pt England school. I love to play netball. My Friends are Mary I, Jessica, Alexandria and Serena. I like playing with them because they play netball and they respect me. I really respect them because friends do that to there other friends. My Dad works for milk. He is the greatest Dad I ever had and my Mum works for KFC and she is the greatest Mum I ever had too! I love my mum and dad, I can never stop loving them. My big brother is cool. He is the oldest. I love my brother. He likes rugby and touch. He is cool because he buys me stuff like shoes and clothes.

The Soapbox Finals in Whangaparaoa - By Andrea

On Sunday the 10th of April we had Soapbox Derby. But this time it wasn't the other one it was the finals. Our driver was Maru. Not only was it the finals but it was in whangaparaoa. The drive was amazing, we had a few songs and beats to cheer on Maru but then the girls got sick of it. Maru made it into the top 16 but not into the top 8 but we had fun anyway.

So then we said lets go make a new chant, but then we ended up making a whole new dance. The lightest of all the cheerleaders was Eleva. So we got 2 girls to pick her up and throw her up in the air and had 3 girls to catch her when she falls back. Me and another cheer leader would stand in the front then do cart wheels in front. We got to go and have a look around with Mary’s mum but that was about it. We brought some snow cones and I brought a cold coke and have a turn on the bouncy castle. You had to pay 10 dollars down to 5 dollars.

It was time to go, we all had a great time on our way back most of the cheer team had fallen asleep. But the kids who were sitting with me were not asleep we were wide awake but then we started falling asleep by the end of the trip.
