The Hare and the Tortoise - By Ana

One day, a fast hare challenged somebody, anybody for a race. Nobody wanted to race him, because he was the fasted out of the whole farm. In the end, a old, wise tortoise challenged the hare. The hare laughed and said, “You will never be able to beat me!”

Even though everyone thought that the hare was going to win, they started the race. The Hare was off and the tortoise started slowly. When the hare had got to a hill around the corner from the finish line, he decided to have a small sleep. After he had sleep for some time, he woke and saw the tortoise still only past the first corner so he sleep for longer.

After a long time, the tortoise got to the hare but he was still fast asleep. The tortoise keep going of course very slowly. When the tortoise was in sight of the finish line, the hare woke up and looked back to see the tortoise, he was nowhere to be seen.

He then looked forward and saw the tortoise nearly over the finish line with everyone cheering. The hare jumped up and started to run. He ran as fast as he could but it was too late. The tortoise crossed the finish line just as he was coming up to it. The tortoise had won!

I like this story because it proves that you can do anything even if you are the youngest, or the oldest, or the slowest.

The World’s Biggest Sneeze - By Jouan

Achooo!!! And there goes another window! Oh, excuse me. I have a really bad case of the sneezes! You might want to stand back a bit. You might not know so I’ll tell you I have the world’s biggest sneeze ... Achoo!!! Well at least the doctor thinks so... oh no, I made another hole in the roof!

I really don’t know how I got my sneeze, neither does my doctor! All we know is that one morning I got up from bed aaa... Achooo!!! Ohh man not again! Now we need a new wall! Anyway, my mum always says that in my Dad’s side of the family they have always sneezed and sneezed and sneezed! She says I got my horrible case of sneezes from them. But I really don’t know!

Achoo!!! That was an astronomical one! Not the new plasma TV!!! Ohh Mann!!! Every time I sneeze something breaks! As you can see(The window, hole in the roof , the wall and the plasma TV) Even at school. No one wants to sit next to me because they're worried I would sneeze and break something or even someone!

My doctor says the only way I can stop destroying things is to cover my mouth when I sneeze. And you know what... he’s right! Everytime I cover my mouth surprisingly nothing gets broken! It is also good because my sneeze won’t spread! I mean the last thing you would want is a bunch of kids spreading a case of the world’s biggest sneeze!!! Right?!

54 Year Old Camera - By Rocky

Have you seen a 54 year old Kodak Camera? My auntie got an old camera from one of her clients. The name for it is Kodak sterling 2 camera, the camera is very different to our new cameras. It has this button to open this little box which has this lens in it to take photos.

I need film for it so I can take photos. I want to see how long I can keep it and probably sell it.

Please give me your opinion about this photo I have shared with you.

Archery at the London Olympics - By Mya

Archery is a Olympic sport, there are different types of archery so there are different rules. Archery is gonna be held at lord’s cricket ground at the London 2012 Olympic games. Did you know the first archery competition was organised in Finsbury, London, in 1583!

Archery competitions can be held inside or outside, in each competition the people will be divided into ends with each archer shooting 3 or 6 arrows. Archery is suitable for competitors with experience. If you get a bulls eye you get a huge score for your team, if you hit anywhere close to the red dot you get a smaller amount of points.

Archery is a challenging game. All you have to do is concentrate on the target it will be very tricky because you might fall over or shoot the arrow in the wrong place. Before archery was an olympic game people used bows and arrows for hunting and warfare 10,000 years ago.

If you want to try this sport you may need: something to keep you balanced, if you're playing it outside you may need glasses so the sun won’t distract you, bow and arrow. You also need a target and some protective gear. Don't forget practice makes perfect!

Jesse Owens - By Rocky

Guess who my favorite athlete is? Jesse Owens, I like him because his heart for playing at the 1936 Belgium Olympics. Hitler was attending the games when hitler saw Jesse owens owning the race. He wanted the blonde hair men to win but Jesse Owens beat them. Jesse owens also won in long jump to.

Jesse had won the 100m, 200m 4X100 relay and long jump. Soon after, hitler honored Jesse owens. He inspires me for going to the olympics where he was surrounded with germans.

Jesse Owens made a new friend who was german. He beat him in long jump and sprinting. He sadly died 1980 in march 31st in tucson Arizona.

Jesse owens is legendary and I hope that he did his best at the 1936 Belgium Olympics.

One great athlete! - By Jouan

Have you ever heard about a great olympic athlete called Mariana Avitia? Her full name is Mariana Avitia Martínez. She was born in September 18, 1993 in Monterrey, Mexico. She is in the Archery Women's Mexican team.

The sport that Mariana competes in is Archery. As you may have heard she is really good at it. She won bronze for the individual women's Archery in the london 2012 summer olympics. At the 2008 Beijing summer olympics she finished her ranking round with a total of 641 points. The women's Mexican team (Mariana Avitia’s team) finished with a gold in the 2011 Guadalajara Pan American Games!!!

The reason I picked Mariana Avitia as my favorite athlete is because when I saw her play Archery in the olympics on television... I was amazed of what she can do. I was very inspired by her determination. Just by watching on television she taught me to never give up whatever happens!!!

I hope you have learnt something from this story. And also enjoyed it. Whatever your goal is don’t stop untill you reach it. Even if it takes a while, keep going!!!

My Favourite Athlete - By Uili

Usain Bolt is the fastest man in the world and was born on the 21st of August 1986. As he grew up in Jamaica he attended Waldensia primary school, from then on he started to show off his sprinting skills. Bolt ran in the annual national primary school competition. At the age of 12 he had become the fastest in the school at the 100 meter sprint.

Bolt comes from a country where reggae music started and I really like reggae music. Did you know that bolt’s first sport was actually cricket. He was a bowler, because he was so tall he tried out athletic sports like running. He was really good at running so he focused on it, but sometimes he would play cricket with his friend’s sometimes.

This year at the 2012 London Olympics Bolt competed in the 100m race and the 200m as well. The funniest thing about him is that whenever he is getting ready to race he was the tallest. He won 6 gold medals in the 2008 olympics and this year’s olympics altogether. Bolt really inspires me because he is the fastest man in the world, I really don’t like running but when I watch him I feel like going to the Olympics.

I wonder if I would run in the Olympics next time?

Sarah Walker - By Saadiya

Have you heard about Sarah Walker? She is a New Zealand BMX rider. She has won silver from coming second in BMX in the London Olympic games. I chose this athlete because she is very brave and accurate when she is riding her BMX bike.

Wow, did you know she has won seven races? She was a favourite to win the BMX women's event at the 2008 Beijing olympics. However, she had came fourth. Her birthday is on July the 6th, 1988. Sarah Walker came second in one race and Sarah Walker was ranked number one in the world by the UCI in 2008.

As well as competing in BMX events around the world. Walker has also been a sports Ambassador for beef + Lamb New Zealand since 2008. She is a sponsored rider for avanti bikes using their lines ABD BMX bikes when racing.

Do you know what to do in BMX? Well it is something which you ride on. Have you ridden one? Are you even scared of hearing about it? I am scared!

Our Great Valerie Adams - By Jouan

Did you hear about our awesome Valerie Adams? She just won GOLD!!! This is because her rival Nadzeya Ostapchuk was taking steroids and when the judges heard about it she got disqualified. Adams went from silver to gold!

At first Valerie was very disappointed with her silver and also because she lost her record for the three times she won gold in a row. Now we all know that Valerie is truly the best shot put player ever!

I just found out this morning that Nadzeya Ostapchuk accused Valerie Adams for using steroids in 2005! But we all know Valerie would never cheat and would never disappoint her country. Valerie Adams is a true champion!!!

We look forward to the Rio De Janeiro 2016 olympics. I can’t wait to see Valerie in action once again!!!

Olympic Closing - By Rocky

New zealand receiving a gold medal
Sadly the Olympics came to an end. Did you like the Olympics? I did! Many people achieved their goals and won a medal and some didn't. I LOVED watching the Olympics and them holding their medals up.

Early this morning I watched some of the Olympic closing it was kind of better than the opening because it had better singers and because they did not have to go through every countries flags.

I hope all the best for the athletes and that they may do better in four years time.

Adams Claiming Gold - By Jabez

The news came with a terrible cry Belarus shot putter Ostapchuk got stripped from the gold medal after getting tested for drugs. The test said she was positive of using steroids, she crashed to the floor bursting in tears. When they called Adams her eyes flooded she was promoted for the gold, interviewing was everywhere around her.

Adams agreed, telling Radio Live the replacement ceremony would ease her disappointment at not having her win honoured during the games. happiness surrounded Adams as she was still bursting into tears. She said “She wants nothing to do with Ostapchuk."

Gold Medals! - By Martha

New Zealand has won six gold medals after Valerie Adams succeed at the Shot Put. Valerie Adams had won a silver but as they took some tests a lady called Nadezhda was taking drugs and had been cheating. The drugs she has been talking make her as strong as a man. It was used to keep men strong but as she is a lady she could change a bit and turn into a man. But as you haven't noticed that she was baned from the Olympics for 2 years. And that is how Valerie Adams won the gold medal.

Valerie Adams has really proved herself as she said “I don't want to waste any energy on her. I just want to enjoy the moment I have."

Olympics Medals: Valerie Adams - By Isaiah

Did you know that New zealand shot-putter "Gold Medals" Valerie Adams has her gold back and all thanks to that lady from Belarus! Before she was given the gold medal the olympics tested for drugs all of the people who came first, second and third in shot-putt it turned out that Nadzeya Ostapchuk took drugs!
We were so lucky to get six gold medals at the London Olympics. We were also proud that Valerie Adams has still been the best world shot-putter. I hope that next olympics games that she will keep on winning until she retires and this is from all the people from New zealand, good work!

Great New for Valerie Adams! - By Ashlee

With all the training Valarie has done she had beaten the Belarus shot putter's score from the final when she was just training. But with all the stress of her name not being put down for the NZ Olympic team she didn't perform at her best. She was very angry but to her luckiness of showing up early by 3 days Valerie Adams was able to tell the team that she was the defending champion and she needed to be on the list! Because of that they had let her in but did not have a room to sleep in with all the drama! Of them not putting her name on the list .

When the day came to do the shot put Valerie Adams through an alright distance but the other competitor through a distance that was longer than Valerie. But after the devastating day for Valerie the Urine tests came back and all four of Nadzeya tests were positive. They then found out that she was taking steroids and was disqualified. Coming clear to her that she was not aloud to play athletes for 2 years and may never come back to the Olympics ever.

Knee Injury - By Ashlee

On Tuesday night while training for our Netball game at 5.05 I was side stepping and suddenly I fell over and hurt my knee. It was funny to see as I looked like a handy cap! When I fell I went to try and get up but my leg felt all wobbly and I couldn't stand up properly .

That night the pain didn't really help but I was really happy to go home and see what was going on instead of embarrassing myself in front of my netball team. When I looked down I thought that my knee would be worse but really it was just a bit swollen.

When I woke up I tried to find the time and eventually I saw a phone so I waddled over but when I checked the time and it was 5.35 I started letting my body wake up. Every thing was awake in my body except for my knee. I wanted to go to the toilet but when I stood up I collapsed on to the couch. As many times as I tried to get up it just made it worse. So I heard somebody in the house awake and I waddled over and asked for help. It was that bad that when we woke up we went to the doctors.

The doctors said that it was a possible sprain or tear to one of my ligaments and that to make sure I had to go to the Otara doctors to take a x-ray. The next day we went back for a check up and he had already looked at the x-ray and we just had to let it heal by itself but if some body hits it that would have to mean one thing and one thing only. OPERATION!
