Mālama Honua Visit Pt England School - By Tevita

You know what? on 25/3/15 on Wednesday some Mālama Honua was doing a voyage around the world. There half threw the world right now. When they came to land we welcome them with a song.

There were heaps of school that came to see Mālama Honua. We sang 3 songs to them and they sang a couple of songs to us to. Then there give us a speech. It was long but also it was very exciting. We even got to meet them with a high-five.

They talked about how we come from some famous navigators, one named Maui! They taught us how people use the stars to guide them around the oceans. If they didn't use anything to guide them they would become lost. Did you know it only takes seven hours to go to Hawaii on a plane but will take two to three months sailing a waka! But it could take a lot longer if the weather is bad!

Hokulea and Hikianalia are two Hawaiian waka that came from Hawaii and landed on Pt England beach. But unfortunately it rained and it got postponed and will be happening tomorrow for all the schools. There will be up to 2,000 children from schools in GI including TC, Tamaki primary and Glenbrae and others.

Yesterday it happened! The whole school and nine other schools went to the beach to see the Hawaii crew that travelled all around the world. When they all got on to land we started to sing a greeting song to greet them coming in. After we sang they started to sing back to as and thank as for greeting them and then we sang again to them.

After this we all stopped and finished with a song. Then the little kids went down and shook their hands. We got to ask them questions and they told us what's been happening in their trip and going around the world. And then we got to say a goodbye to them and go back to school and go in the hall.

To get to New Zealand from Hawaii in a plane it will be 7 hours to get to New Zealand. If we were sail to New Zealand it would take about two to three months. However, if the weather changes it will take up to four or five months.

There is a famous Waka race in Hawaii and it's called the Queen of liliuokalani and people get invite to do it in the world. They have to race up to 26 Km and it will take about 2 hour and half.

Meeting the Malama Honua was cool because we to ask what cool things they had done all around the world.

Have you been to the Hokule’a and Hikiana powhiri? If you haven’t wow! You have missed an big adventure on Wednesday 25th march. It was great! At first all the schools like Panmure bridge, Glen bray, Tamaki college came to point England reserve for the Malama Honua. Some of the students from every school went for a ride in the boat. Our principal Mr Burt was there and the camera crew was there.

We sat down on the wet green grass and waited for the two waka’s to come, it took for long but as we were waiting someone was blowing a horn and someone was blowing the trumpet. Once they had landed on our beach the man was talking to us then all of the school’s sang three song’s called E oho, Nga waka E whitu and E Honore. It was extremely amazing meeting the people and really fun too.

When we meet the people who traveled from Hawai’i to Point England reserve we had to walk down the stairs then run! Running to high five all the visitors on the hand.There we go running fast as we could through the hard rough sand as we were running it was hard to run in the sand and when we kick the sand will bounce back into our shoes and sandals.

I really liked going to the Malama Honua it was fun.I would like to go and visit Hawai’i for a Holiday and I would like to go on a long day in the boat while we are fishing in the ocean. The excited thing I was really excited about is that we are all going to be on TV!

Mālama Honua Comes To Manaiakalani - By Seini

On Wednesday the 25th of March the manaiakalani schools went to the Pt england beach to see the Malama Honua group. They came in two of the hawaiian waka’s called Hokule’a and Hikianalia. Some of the student’s from Pt england school have already been in the one of the vaka’s and I was one of those people from our school. The Hikianalia was the vaka that we got to explore it had a bedroom, a toilet and a kitchen like a house but the bedrooms aren’t underneath.

Malama Honua

The grass was wet, the sea was clean. The waka was hooked to the sand at Pt England beach and the schools were there to greet them! It was a perfect morning with the waka coming to the Pt England beach! When we got to the beach there was already one waka anchored and it's name is Hokule’a. There was one more waka to come that was named Hikianalia. They had come from an amazing country that is called Hawaii.

Songs

When the Hikianalia was coming to land we had to sing three amazing songs that is called E oho. When the visitors had all come off the waka and they had arrived onto our beach we had to wait for two minutes for an important chief to welcome them in maori. When the man was done speaking we sang He honore. And when it was ending it was time to sing Nga Waka.

Meet the people

When we were done it was time to go and high five the navigators that had come from Hawaii. When we were done high fiving them we had to wait for our teacher and line up and to get ready to go back to school. When we got back to class we had to eat our morning tea and get ready to go and play.

Hi, welcome to the Mālama Honua waka that came to Pt England School. On Tuesday the 24th of March two different waka named Hokule’a and Hikianalia came to Pt England. We did get to see them and we will see them again maybe. If they let us. At the end we had to sing - He Hone - Na Waka - Eho. And we had to go down where the sand was and high five their hands.

When we went back up I high fived all the teachers. I said thank you to them because they traveled all the way to Point England beach from Hawaii to see us and other schools. Like - Saint Patricks - Tamaki College - Glenbrae and other schools. It was fun because one day I would like to go on a boat and do what they are doing!

Malama Honua comes to Manaiakalani - By Roimata

On Wednesday 25th of March we were getting ready to go down to Pt England beach to see the two waka's come in, the names of the waka's are Hikianalia, Hokule'a. We lined up and Mr Burt was praying, then the little kids had to go first then the big kids can go after them. When we got to the beach we had to sit down silently and watch the waka come in. The people that was on the waka were people that were Voyaging around the world.

When we were sitting down on the muddy grass we had to sing three waiata. The people that was on the Hokule’a waka was collected by the people that was on the boat. We had to welcome them with a Waiata and a Haka. The names of the three waiata's are E Oho, Nga Waka and He Honore.

Then when we finished singing, the Hawaiian people was greeting us in their language. We waited for them to finish singing, then it was time for us to go and meet them. Everybody was so excited to meet them, when it was time for me to meet them I was so happy that I shaked their hands and also hugged them too.

I was so happy to meet the Hokule’a and Hikianalia crew. I hope that next time they can come back and visit us. I really had a good time with the crew.
